The Story of Me
When I was 16, I was diagnosed with MS after going blind for three months in one eye. I was terrified that my body was going to betray me, and decided to embrace opportunities while I still felt strong enough to do them.
In college an advisor pushed me to study abroad. I was terrified. We weren’t a family that traveled. But thinking I might only have a few years before MS overtook my body, I went to study in Mexico. And for the first time – much to my surprise and delight - I truly and fully felt my family’s Mexican roots. And realized that having MS, being Mexican-American, these are essential parts of myself that make me a stronger – and happier – human being.
Now my whole career is focused on diversity, equity and inclusion. I believe uncovering the essential elements that make us each different bring more to this industry. Today, my passion is finding ways to open doors and break-down barriers to anyone who wants to enter our field.
